Week 9 Waiver Wire: Grab Allgeier, Then Go Get the Raiders' New Workhorse

Injuries just handed out three starting jobs. Here is who to claim.

The pitch: Injuries just handed out three starting jobs. Here's who to claim before your leaguemates wake up.

Week 8 was rough on backfields and great for your waiver wire. Here's my claim order, from top to bottom.

1. Tyler Allgeier, RB, Cardinals (top priority) Jeremiyah Love went down, Bam Knight got knocked out, and Allgeier went off for 147 rushing yards and a TD on 11 carries, plus 5 catches for 44 yards and another score (RotoBaller). Love is on IR with a high-ankle sprain and expected to miss four to five weeks. Seattle is a tough matchup, so don't expect 191 yards again. But a lead back for a month doesn't hit waivers often. Spend big here.

2. Mike Washington Jr., RB, Raiders This one's weird. Washington got 25 carries against the Jets while Ashton Jeanty got two, and Klint Kubiak said Jeanty's light workload was by design (RotoBaller). He only turned that into 83 yards, so efficiency isn't the reason to add him. Volume is. He's rostered in just 27% of leagues, so grab him before someone else figures it out.

3. Antonio Williams, WR, Commanders Terry McLaurin's season is over, and the rookie stepped in right away: 5 catches for 54 yards on a team-high 7 targets, and he led Washington's receivers in snaps and routes (FantasyPros). He's rostered in ~19% of leagues there, and FantasyPros ranks his rest-of-season schedule 6th easiest. He's a PPR flex who should keep getting better.

4. Adonai Mitchell, WR, Jets Lots of people dropped him after a zero-catch return from IR. Then he caught 7 of 9 targets for a career-high 142 yards and a TD against the Raiders (RotoBaller). He's rostered in 11% of Yahoo leagues. He's boom-or-bust with Garrett Wilson and Omar Cooper Jr. around, but the boom is real.

5. Emmett Johnson, RB, Chiefs He had one carry, and it doesn't matter. He caught all 5 targets for 128 yards and a 73-yard TD against Denver (RotoBaller). Kenneth Walker III still leads the backfield, so Johnson is a PPR bench piece with a growing passing-game role, not a weekly starter yet.

6. Kenny Gainwell, RB, Buccaneers He had 25 carries for 140 yards in a rainy shutout where Tampa completed zero passes (RotoBaller). Don't expect that again. Still, he has 39 carries over two weeks after 19 in the first six. He's an RB3 and an Irving handcuff, but heads up: the Bucs are on bye in Week 10.

7. Brenton Strange, TE, Jaguars Want a safe tight end? Strange has topped 40 yards in four straight games and ranks TE13 in points per game over that stretch, all without a touchdown (RotoBaller). When the TDs show up, he'll win you a week.

Skip for now: MarShawn Lloyd. He's averaging 2.6 yards per carry, and Green Bay hasn't changed its starter (RotoBaller). Only stash him in deep leagues.

Good luck on waivers, and go get Allgeier.
